Some days just stink

I don't know why Nanchang has this effect on me, maybe it is more the weather or the lack of things to do, or the lack of community I sometimes feel here, but some days in this city just stink. Its not like anything bad happened or anything, but today is just one of those days. I'm tired, I don't want to do much of anything (well that's not true, but i don't want to go to the trouble to do it) and its raining for the 4th straight day so we all feel trapped inside. I had dinner last night with some foreigners and it was so lacking that friendship flare... the laughs, the giggles, the planning to do something fun on the next nice day... None of the things I complain about really matter in the grand scheme of things. I am well aware of that, so why do I let these things get under my skin. Why can't I just be content and happy despite it all? I was thinking today what I might do if I were in America and were feeling like this... well, maybe go to Target and just walk around or head up to the aquarium. Maybe I would just go to Micky D's and let the kids play on the playground and drink a cup of coffee. I could do something here but that would mean trudging out in the rain, walking a great distance, catching a bus or taxi, walking again through a sea of people yelling "foreigner, or Barbie Doll" as we try to get to our place of interest. I don't know that it would be much different, but in my mind I would be able to do something other than this... the good news is that now it is time for school. Gracie and I will work through language and reading, Bible and Math and then play a game, do a project, read a story and finish our study of cells. This will definitely change my mood... my Gracie is a smart cookie and I always love teaching her. Hopefully tomorrow the rain will subside and we can go outside. Let the cloud of gloom float away.
